Objective

Be the first player to get rid of all your cards. Score points based on cards left in opponents' hands.

Setup

Each player is dealt 7 cards. A card is flipped from the draw pile to start the discard pile.

Playing a Card

On your turn, play a card that matches the top discard card by color, number, or symbol. If you can't play, draw a card from the draw pile. If the drawn card is playable, you may play it immediately.

Special Cards

  • Skip — Next player loses their turn.
  • Reverse — Reverses the direction of play. In a 2-player game, acts as Skip.
  • Draw Two (+2) — Next player draws 2 cards and loses their turn.
  • Wild — Can be played on anything. You choose the next color.
  • Wild Draw Four (+4) — Choose the next color, and the next player draws 4 cards. Can only be played when you have no cards matching the current color. The next player can challenge this!

Challenging Wild Draw Four

When a Wild Draw Four is played against you, you can challenge it. If the player who played it had a card matching the current color, the challenge succeeds and they draw 4 cards instead. If the challenge fails, you draw 6 cards.

Calling UNO

When you play your second-to-last card, you must call "UNO!" If another player catches you before the next turn, you draw 2 penalty cards.

Scoring

  • Number cards: face value (0-9).
  • Skip, Reverse, Draw Two: 20 points each.
  • Wild, Wild Draw Four: 50 points each.

Strategy Tips

  • 1Save your Wild and Wild Draw Four cards for critical moments.
  • 2Pay attention to what colors opponents are playing and try to change to colors they don't have.
  • 3Use Draw Two and Skip cards strategically to prevent opponents from going out.
  • 4Don't forget to call UNO — the 2-card penalty can cost you the game.
  • 5If you have multiple playable cards, choose the one that keeps the most options open for your next turn.
