How to Play Monopoly

Objective

Be the last player standing! Buy properties, collect rent, build houses and hotels, and manage your money wisely to bankrupt your opponents.

Starting the Game

• Each player starts with Rs 15,000.
• All tokens begin on the GO space.
• Roll the dice and start moving immediately on your first turn.
• You must complete one full lap around the board before you can buy any properties.

On Your Turn

• Roll two dice and move your token clockwise.
• Doubles: Roll again! But 3 consecutive doubles sends you to Jail.
• Take action based on the space you land on.
• You may build houses or trade before ending your turn.

Properties

• Land on an unowned property — you may buy it at the listed price.
• If you decline, the property goes to auction for all players.
• Own all properties in a color group to build houses.
• Build up to 3 houses, then upgrade to a hotel.
• Houses must be built evenly across the color group.
• When another player lands on your property, they pay you rent.

Special Spaces

• GO — Collect Rs 1,500 each time you pass or land on GO.
• Income Tax — Pay Rs 200 to the bank.
• Wealth Tax — Pay 1% of your total property value.
• Club House — Pay Rs 100 to the bank.
• Rest House — Skip your next turn.
• Chance — Draw a Chance card and follow its instructions.
• Community Chest — Draw a Community Chest card and follow its instructions.
• Jail — Just visiting, no penalty unless sent here.
• Go To Jail — Go directly to Jail, do not pass GO.

Jail

• You can pay Rs 500 to get out immediately.
• Or try to roll doubles on your next turn.
• After 3 failed attempts, you must pay Rs 500.

Mortgage

• Mortgage a property to the bank for its mortgage value.
• No rent can be collected on mortgaged properties.
• Unmortgage by paying the mortgage value plus 10% interest.

Bankruptcy & Winning

• If you cannot pay a debt, you must sell buildings and mortgage properties.
• If you still cannot pay, you are bankrupt and eliminated.
• The last player remaining wins the game!
